Black Belt Librarian

Warren Graham, author of the book Black Belt Librarian, gave a wonderful workshop on security in libraries. His presentation was reality based, sensible, and very entertaining.
His homework assignment is something I plan to incorporate into my daily routine. He says that in order to keep up with the bad guys, who use their heightened awareness to their advantage,we need to do the same. If we just stop what we're doing every 30 minutes, look around, and take note of the scene before us for 30 seconds, we're heightening our awareness to match that of the trouble makers. It's been many years since I studied TaeKwonDo, but Warren's presentation reminded me of that feeling of quiet confidence I remember having while I was studying it.
